Assisted Living #1
Assisted Living was the seed that sprouted Womo Productions. We have been fine tuning this game for the past two years with semi regular meetings over numerous google hangouts. Now that we are close to completing the game we decided it was time to define who we are, what we want to achieve, and give some fun updates along the way. Today’s update will be on the games creation.
BACKSTORY
The original concept for Assisted Living is based on a crappy movie pitch I gave to my brother while filling up my van with gas. I thought it would be fun to have a zombie movie based in an assisted living facility where the hero of the movie has been constantly mistreated by the patients and the other staff. He would need to navigate the facility to locate and rescue the one patient he took care of who he liked. That was it. I had that rough idea and the name of the movie figured out, “Assisted Living”. After some iteration on the movie concept we decided it could possibly make a fun game.
The core group when we started were John, Kyle, and myself. John is a good friend who lived in Colorado and who I had been playing xbox with since 2003. Kyle is my older brother who is based in California, like myself, and who I had been putting up with since the day I was born. Our backgrounds varied but all fit nicely together, I am a visual/ux designer by day and a gamer by night. Kyle is a full fledged undiagnosed ADHD fueled instagram artist with a decent following. John has a background in game design/theory and tons of knowledge of various games. Together we set up a weekly meeting on Wednesday evenings for an hour and a half to slowly define what the game would become. All of us have families and jobs that took up the majority of our time but being able to take an idea from rough concept to full fledged game was extremely fulfilling.
